FAQs
Q1: What makes feminized seeds different from regular seeds?
Answer: As a cannabis geneticist, I often explain that feminized seeds are specifically bred to produce female plants 99% of the time. At Vega Genetics, we use advanced breeding techniques to ensure our feminized seeds maintain both stability and vigor. This saves growers time and resources by eliminating the need to identify and remove male plants during cultivation.
Q2: How do you select parent plants for breeding new strains?
Answer: Parent selection is both an art and a science. In our genetic library of over 30 strains, we look for specific traits like terpene profiles, resistance to environmental stresses, and growth patterns. We then use careful phenotype selection and extensive testing to ensure the traits we want are consistently expressed in the offspring.
Q3: What role does genetic testing play in seed quality?
Answer: Genetic testing is crucial for maintaining high standards. At Vega Genetics, every batch of seeds undergoes rigorous testing for purity and germination rates. This is why we can confidently offer our germination guarantee to customers. Our recent MDA testing certification demonstrates our commitment to quality assurance.
Q4: How can I maximize the yield of my cannabis plants?
Answer: Yield maximization involves a combination of genetics, environment, and cultivation techniques. Start with high-quality seeds from a reputable source like Vega Genetics to ensure strong genetic potential. Maintain optimal growing conditions by monitoring temperature, humidity, and light exposure. Implement training techniques like topping and low-stress training (LST) to encourage bushier growth and more bud sites. Regularly feeding your plants the right nutrients will also support robust growth and maximize yield.
Q5: What is the best way to store cannabis seeds for long-term viability?
Answer: Proper storage is crucial for maintaining seed viability over time. Store seeds in a cool, dark, and dry place, ideally in an airtight container. A refrigerator can be an excellent storage location, as long as the seeds are kept in a moisture-proof container to prevent condensation. At Vega Genetics, we ensure our seeds are stored under optimal conditions before they reach you, so you receive them in the best possible state.
Q6: How do I identify and manage nutrient deficiencies in cannabis plants?
Answer: Nutrient deficiencies often manifest as discoloration or deformities in leaves. Common deficiencies include nitrogen (yellowing leaves), phosphorus (dark, blotchy spots), and potassium (brown edges). To manage deficiencies, regularly test soil or growing media pH levels and adjust nutrient solutions accordingly. At Vega Genetics, we provide guidance on nutrient management as part of our consulting services, helping you keep your plants healthy and productive.
